Description:
The gray and gold stone, while beautifully marbleized, almost becomes subordinate to the magnificently colored carving of a goldfish swimming amidst a floral setting that includes both a lotus and a pearl. From the rose colored fish to the umber, ivory, maroon and gold of the objects in its setting, the carving appears to have been hand painted! This is a uniquely gorgeous seal.
Symbolic Meaning:
The goldfish is equated with gold in abundance since the Chinese word for fish is phonetically the same as the word for abundance. Goldfish are associated with good luck. The pearl in this case reinforces the concept of longevity of good fortune wealth, and prosperity. Rippling waves of water often symbolize success and happiness. The lotus, a symbol of purity and holiness, is sacred in China.
